Kindness - Ready to put the needs of others before our own

OUR STORY

Fourth Saturday was first thought about by Lo and Mat during a December night, just before Christmas. As a snowstorm blanketed Toronto we had creative conversations about community building.

Through our experiences - Lo being born in Canada in a family that moved from Jamaica, and having lived in Australia; and Mat's who was born in Romania and spent most of his life in Canada -  we found a common view: every day presents us with the opportunity to do good, and connect with new friends.

That is why we decided to begin Fourth Saturday. Our aim is to build authentic, diverse and inclusive communities.

On the fourth Saturday of every month we came together to volunteer for a community project. After, we took the time to meet and get to know each other better.

Since 2018 we had the opportunity to volunteer for a number of organizations: Dixon Hall - Meals On Wheels; Habitat for Humanity - ReStore; Pride Toronto; Canadian Cancer SocietyHand Up Toronto; Regent Park Film Festival; The Word On The Street; Canada Running Series; Beaches Jazz Festival.

In March 2020, as part of the instructions with regards the COVID-19 response, we have suspended all our monthly meetups until further notice. While this is a difficult time for our community, right now the priority is to ensure that everyone is safe

As we navigate new changes, we are coming together as a community to continue our mission to make a difference on the fourth Saturday of every month and make new friends.

Fourth Saturday acknowledges the land we are meeting on in Tkaronto (Toronto) is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We also acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit.
